Pterocos is a free, browser-based code editor that allows you to write and run code in multiple programming languages including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, SQL, Lua, Java, Kotlin, Rust, Ruby, PHP, C#, JSON, and Minecraft Skript, entirely within your web browser.

3. Use of the Service

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You must not use the Service to:

• Create, share, or distribute malicious code, malware, or harmful scripts
• Publish content that is illegal, defamatory, obscene, or infringes on intellectual property rights
• Attempt to disrupt, interfere with, or gain unauthorized access to any system or network
• Share content containing hate speech, harassment, or explicit material
• Impersonate any person or entity
• Violate any applicable local, national, or international law or regulation

4. Shared Projects

When you use the project sharing feature, you are solely responsible for the content you share. Pterocos reserves the right to remove shared projects that violate these Terms. Shared projects are subject to content moderation to ensure compliance with our policies.

5. Intellectual Property

You retain ownership of any code you write using the Service. By using the sharing feature, you grant Pterocos a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host and display your shared content solely for the purpose of providing the Service.

6. No Warranty

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Pterocos does not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pterocos shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.

8. Modifications to Terms

Pterocos reserves the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

1. Overview

Pterocos is designed with privacy in mind. We do not require you to create an account to use the Service. Your code and projects are stored locally in your browser using localStorage.

2. Information We Collect

We collect minimal information to operate the Service:

• Usage data: Anonymous aggregate data about which features are used, collected through standard web analytics.
• IP address: Your IP address may be logged temporarily for security purposes (e.g., rate-limiting abuse of the share feature). IP addresses are hashed and not stored in readable form.
• Shared project content: If you use the project sharing feature, the content you share is stored on our servers to generate your share link. You may include an optional display name.

3. Local Storage

Your projects, settings, and preferences are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use the share feature. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.

4. How We Use Your Information

Any information we collect is used solely to:

• Operate and maintain the Service
• Prevent abuse and enforce our Terms of Service
• Improve the Service based on usage patterns
• Respond to support requests

5. Cookies

Pterocos uses cookies to operate the Service. By using Pterocos, you consent to our use of cookies. These include:

• Essential cookies: Required for the Service to function correctly (e.g., session state).

6. Third-Party Services

Pterocos uses the following third-party services to deliver the Service. By using Pterocos, you acknowledge and accept that these services may collect data according to their own privacy policies:

• Google Fonts — used to load the Inter typeface. Google may log requests to its font servers. See Google's Privacy Policy.
• GitHub API — used to display the live star count for the Pterocos open-source repository.
• WordPress / pterocos.eu.org — images and screenshots shown on the landing page are served from our WordPress hosting.
• Third-party badge providers — directory and recognition badges (e.g., ProductFame, Fazier, SaaSDB) are loaded from their respective CDNs and may log requests.
• Editor CDNs — the Monaco editor engine and language runtimes (e.g., Python via Pyodide, SQL engines) are loaded from public CDNs such as cdnjs, jsDelivr, and unpkg. These CDNs may log request metadata.
• Discord — if you click a Discord link or join our server, Discord's own privacy policy applies.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party services. We encourage you to review their policies.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties beyond those listed in Section 6 above. We may share information only when required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

8. Data Retention

Shared project data is retained as long as the share link is active. Security logs (IP hashes) are retained for a maximum of 30 days and then automatically deleted.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page.
